PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
|
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGEWith summer finally in full swing and we actually have more sun than rain, it is hard to believe we are in the middle of July. The Board has met, identified committee chairs, and set the calendar for the coming year. Our summer calendar includes just two events: the service project activity on July 26th, which will be in my home and the President's dinner on August 23rd at Shirley's. Please call Dorothy with your reservations. The President's dinner will be a good opportunity to invite guests including any prospective members. Our July event will be held July 26 at the party room where I live. The party room is in the building in the center of our complex. I'll attach balloons to the door you should enter. Please feel free to join us at any time after 5:30 pm. Traffic and work commitments might mean a later arrival, but we would be happy to see you whenever you can make it. See Service notes for other details. Our Global Event is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 20 so we can begin the year without as much pressure to prepare for it. It will be another fun evening at the History Theater with Chopsticks, Band-Aids, and Johnny Unitas. The three one-act plays feature three separate women, a waitress, a dancer and a Chinese woman who grew up in Minnesota. It promises to be smart and funny. While we are a small group, we really accomplish a lot and I hope we have fun in the process. Our service recipients have been identified, we have determined when we will have program meetings and when we will have business meetings?.. so we are ready for a new beginning. One of the things that has kept me in Zonta is the interaction with the women who belong to this Chapter. After having met with each of you last year, I hope to maintain friendship and good communication with all of you. We have a great year ahead of us. See you soon! Carole |

| Service Projects – Update July Service Project Blanket-Making at Carole’s Home 1690 Highway 36 W. Tuesday, July 26 5:30 p.m. Join us on Tuesday, July 26, at Carole’s for a special hands-on service project. We are gathering to make blankets for donation to the residents of Women’s Advocates. This is an opportunity to be part of an activity that helps others and it is a fun way to socialize with other Zonta members while making a difference in the community. All materials will be provided so all you have to do is cut and tie the ends for a finished blanket! We’ll also organize and pack the personal care items (make-up, deodorant, shampoo, combs, brushes, mirrors, etc.) for donation to the residents of Women’s Advocates so if you have items you still want to donate, please bring them with you or contact Judy C. to arrange for collection. Since this activity is during the dinner hour, bring something easy to share with others (cheese/crackers, dip/fruit, cold cuts/rolls, salad, etc.). Carol will provide something cold to drink. We will meet in the Recreation Center of her complex so park on either side of the pond and enter the building marked 1630 W. Highway 36. This complex is on the south side of Highway 36 facing Rosedale. Take the frontage road from the northwest corner of Snelling & County Rd. B (by Outback Steakhouse) and follow it as it winds along Snelling and Highway 36 to the complex. MAP Questions – call Carole (651)636-8249. Judy |

Northwest Youth & Family Services News: Twenty eight years ago, a group of courageous, innovative and concerned community leaders took seriously the challenge of raising healthy kids. Together, they established the agency that is now known as Northwest Youth & Family Services. In that first year, NYFS served about 100 families. Today, NYFS serves over 3,000 clients each year ranging in age from 4 to 100 years old. NYFS services include mental health counseling, employment and diversion programs for at-risk youth, parent education groups, and support for families in crisis. Our newest venture is a work-readiness program to help adults make the transition from public assistance to full-time employment. NYFS Penny Pinchers program can always use like-new clothing, household items and furniture. If anyone has items they would like to donate and need help getting them to Penny Pinchers, please let us know and we will make arrangements for you. |
